COLLECTOR’S CASES

1968

12 Car Rally Case – Black plastic clam shell style case with a black plastic latch and carrying handle on top. On the front, the words “RALLY CASE BY MATTEL” are embossed in red lettering along with the Hot Wheels logo and a redline stripe around a sticker that resembles a mag spoke wheel in the center. On the back is a sticker with the Hot Wheels logo in red on an orange background above a white, blue and black striped border with the words “12 CAR RALLY CASE BY MATTEL” in bold black letters below. On the inside there is a sticker with pictures of 12 cars in assorted colors. The cylinder in the center of the case is usually for storing the collector buttons.


24 Car Collector’s Case - White vinyl case with attached trays molded in light blue on the inside, two clear covers that hook together to protect the cars and a metal twist-lock or snap closure and blue carrying handle are on top. The Hot Wheels logo in red and yellow with the words “24 CAR COLLECTOR’S CASE” in black lettering are against an orange background above a white, blue and black striped border while the artwork of two cars, one in white and the other in purple, racing through a finish gate on orange track against a red background below. The front and back have the same graphics.


Pop-Up 12 Car Collector’s Case– White vinyl case with an attached tray molded in light blue and a metal snap on top. This case does not have a carrying handle. When you fold down the lid, a grandstand “pops-up” and there are connectors so that you can connect track to the case and make it part of a track set. The front has the Hot Wheels logo in red and yellow with the words “POP-UP 12 CAR COLLECTOR’S CASE” in black lettering against an orange background above a white, blue and black striped boarder with artwork of a yellow and blue car racing past a multi-colored grandstand below. The back has a catalog printed in blue against a white background where you can write in the names of cars.

1969

24 Car Super Rally Case – Black plastic clam shell style case with a black plastic latch and carrying handle on top. On the front, the words “ SUPER RALLY CASE BY MATTEL” are embossed in red lettering along with the Hot Wheels logo and a redline stripe around a sticker that resembles a mag spoke wheel in the center. On the back is a sticker with a blue car on orange track against a yellow background above a white, purple and black striped boarder with the Hot Wheels logo in red and the words “24 CAR RALLY CASE BY MATTEL” in bold black letters below. On the inside there is a sticker with pictures of 24 cars in assorted colors. The cylinder in the center of the case is usually for storing the collector buttons.


Adjustable 12 Car Collector’s Case – Yellow vinyl case with a flap that folds down over the top portion of the lid where both are secured by a metal twist-lock. This case does not have a carrying handle. There is a an attached tray molded in white plastic with various slits and six dividers that can be slid into these slits which adjust the size of the space for small and large castings. You could also use the metal collector buttons as dividers by sliding them into the same slits. The Hot Wheels logo in red and the words “12 CAR COLLECTOR’S CASE BY MATTEL” in black lettering are printed on the flap while artwork of a red car on orange track with a white, purple and black striped boarder are printed on both the lid and back of the case.

1970

Action Set Gear Box – Yellow vinyl case with a white plastic carrying handle and two metal hinged clasps on top. There is a section inside for storing straight track, another section for storing track accessories such as curves, trestles and bridges and there is even a storage area with a cover that snaps closed and is adjustable for storing twelve cars. The lid and back of the case have the Hot Wheels logo in red and the words “ACTION SET GEAR BOX” in black lettering above a white, purple and black striped boarder with artwork of green, red and white cars racing on orange track against a yellow background below.


12 Car Collector’s Race Case – Black vinyl case with a metal twist-lock or snap closure and a black plastic carrying handle on top. There is one removable white plastic tray that holds twelve cars. The lid and back of the case have the Hot Wheels logo in red and white with the words “COLLECTOR’S RACE CASE” in black lettering above a blue Swingin’ Wing and purple Mantis racing on orange track against a yellow background.


24 Car Collector’s Race Case – Black vinyl case with a metal twist-lock or snap closure and a black plastic carrying handle on top. There are two removable white plastic trays that hold twelve cars each. The lid and back of the case have the Hot Wheels logo in red and white with the words “COLLECTOR’S RACE CASE” in black lettering above a white Firebird and yellow Mustang racing on orange track against a yellow background.


48 Car Collector’s Race Case – Black vinyl case with a metal twist-lock or snap closure and a black plastic carrying handle on top. There are four removable white plastic trays that hold twelve cars each. The lid and back of the case have the Hot Wheels logo in red and white with the words “COLLECTOR’S RACE CASE” in black lettering above a silver Porsche 917 and a red Ferrari 312P racing on orange track against a yellow background.


72 Car Collector’s Race Case – Black vinyl case with a metal twist-lock or snap closure and a black plastic carrying handle on top. There are six removable white plastic trays that hold twelve cars each. The lid and back of the case have the Hot Wheels logo in red and white with the words “COLLECTOR’S RACE CASE” in black lettering above a an orange Mongoose and yellow Snake with pink and white parachutes against an orange and yellow background.
