Year four brought with it the most new models ever introduced in one time during the entire Spectraflame Era. Thirty five castings to be exact. The Spoilers, Grand Prix and Heavyweights series were continued as were several castings from 1968 through 1970. The one noticeable shift that occurred this year was the change from metal buttons to plastic. This year also brought with it, the “crumbler.” Poor quality metal was used during production of some castings and over time, these particular castings have literally fallen apart. Sometimes just the base is susceptible while other times the body falls victim. Castings that are prone as being crumblers are noted throughout this section.
